Woman running on the beach at golden hour, portrait session in Gold Coast

I’ve had a client write to me asking for a session right after ending a relationship of several years. A client celebrating a promotion at work. And many others in the middle of a move, changing city, country or career to start from zero. By now, on first contact, I already ask what is going on. Because I know the urge to book a session arrives together with the energy of change.

It’s not a coincidence. Big change releases energy that was dammed up. Ending a long relationship, moving countries, moving cities, getting promoted, finishing a degree, leaving a home, becoming a mother. Every turn of the page makes you look back and realise you handled more than you thought you could. That realisation unlocks old insecurities and fears. It opens the door to the wants you kept postponing, including the portrait session that was always left for someday.

The window to ride that energy isn’t long. After six months or so, life settles back into routine and the dreams get filed away again. But in all honesty: travelling solo and doing a portrait session are the two decisions made at turning points that I have never seen anyone regret. Both run on the same courage. You throw yourself into something new and unknown.

Here is what I see in the results of these sessions. Months later, she opens the photos and uses them as material proof. Every time she doubts what she is capable of, she opens the album and sees who she was in that moment. The photo becomes a reference she gave to herself. And the cycle feeds itself: whoever has seen herself whole once can make decisions that used to feel too big.

One example where this shows up most clearly in my day to day: new arrivals in Gold Coast. Women who landed here recently. The migrant community is big, especially Brazilians, and many came in a real turning point. Not an extended holiday, not tourism: the opportunity of a lifetime. A session at this moment marks the arrival and works as an anchor, something to look back at in two years and see that it really happened.

Se você é brasileira e chegou há pouco: a sessão inteira pode ser em português, do primeiro contato à entrega.

The big moments in life happen when you throw yourself in and go. You create your right moment, not the other way around.

So if you want to do a session, there is no reason to postpone it or wait for the right moment.
